"Now its a bad trend that is bad because nobody needs a physical copy." in the end it was the scalpers and price gougers who won, not the normal paying customers. they purposely produced limited run copies of each to artificially drive up scarcity and prices. The problem you are describing "Most stores had limited inventory of new games coming in." is what nintendo did with the nes mini and snes classic emulators. you know what people get ALL content upon a games release INCLUDING pre-order content? it not the paying customers who fall prey to pre-order culture. When pre-ordering video games you are quite literally gambling on the hope that maybe, MAYBE, the product will be as advertised (increasingly unlikely as time goes on) when you finally get it.Īnd this is putting aside the BS "pre-order exclusive content" stupidity. The finished product could be completely different from the trailers (common), broken upon release (also common), or if it's an online multiplayer game the servers might be busted upon release (again, COMMON OCCURRENCE!). You then pre-order the game, having no idea what the actual finished product is going to be like. So, now you want to get a game that looks and sounds like great product ASAP and it has pre-orders available. More often than not, video game trailers are just.flat out lies (remember anthem's "actual in-game footage"?). Imagine this: you see a trailer for a game you've heard great things about and the like what you see in the trailer. Join the discussion on the /r/Blizzard Discord channel!
